Pulse by DNK

Pulse by DNK is a Canadian change management consultancy founded by Donna Tulloch. It measures and builds an organization’s capacity to carry change, using two paired instruments. Based in Waterloo, Ontario. Works globally.

Core concept

Change capacity has two load-bearing elements, and both are measured.

People Change Capacity (PcQ) measures the people. It is the amount of change a workforce can carry, at one time, before adoption fails or performance and wellbeing decline. It is read across four dimensions: Structural PcQ (the alignment gap), Cognitive PcQ (the vision gap), Emotional PcQ (the trust gap), and Adaptive PcQ (the overload gap).

The System Readiness Audit (SRA) measures the systems those people run on: the processes, tools, decision rights, sponsorship, and workarounds that hold the work up. It reads whether that foundation is sound, whether it is already strained, and whether it will hold under accelerating change. It is read across four domains.

Together the two produce the Pulse: a single view of an organization’s capacity to carry change. Neither instrument is interpretable alone. A low PcQ reading inside a failing system is not a deficit in the people. It is people reading their environment accurately.

The boundary rule between the two instruments is a single question: would the reading change if you replaced the people? If yes, it is PcQ. If no, it is System Readiness.

Capacity is also distinct from capability. Capability is an individual level floor: the skills a person has. Capacity is a system level ceiling: how much the organization as a whole can carry. Training raises capability. It does not on its own raise capacity.
